Argentina is home to a vast diversity and natural wonderland. Streetside tango, wafting grills, gaochos on horseback and football are just some of the cultural treasures in this cocktail of wanderlust.
This trip starts at Buenos Aires, the country’s vibrant capital city commonly referred to as Paris of the South! Fly to Iguazu Falls and into country’s northwest corner including Salta, Purmamarca and Jujuy for the impressive formations and artist’s palette of mineral colours.
Head south to the world’s largest advancing glaciers – Perito Moreno Glacier. End the trip in the lake-district of Bariloche with snow-capped volcanoes, lush pine forest and turquoise lakes.
Arriving into Buenos Aires, you will be met and transferred to your hotel to rest after a long flight. The Argentinian capital is also dubbed as the “Paris of the South” for its charming neighbourhoods.
Start with half-day Buenos Aires tour visiting the historic Plaza de Mayo, Government House, Cabildo, Cathedral and Plaza de la Republica. Stroll along the colonial houses and cobbled streets of San Telmo, the colourful La Boca port area, sophisticated Puerto Madero and Palermo districts, as well as the Recoleta cemetery and church housing the well-known Eva Peron. Afternoon is free at leisure with optional tours:
Option A: Colon Theatre (4hr, on private basis with English-speaking guide)
Experience one of the world’s top 5 opera houses. Visit the various halls in this theatre and see the tailor, wigmaker and scenography rooms backstage.
Option B: Underground Buenos Aires (4h, on shared basis with private English-speaking guide)
Glimpse into the city’s architectural past on El Zanjón de Granados underground museum, a series of old tunnels going back to 1730.
Option C: Evita’s Life (3h, on private basis with English-speaking guide)
Visit the General Labor Union Building, Evita´s Museum and Taller of Marcelo Toledo, the renowned Argentine goldsmith who made replicas of the jewels worn by Evita, the country’s spiritual leader.
This evening, enjoy an Argentinean Beef dinner with Tango Show (private transfer, without guide)
Enjoy a full day excursion to an estancia or working ranch for a glimpse into the Argentine countryside life in style. Appreciate the Argentine gaucho skills in horseback riding, taste the typical empanadas (meat pastries) and Argentine barbecue. Conclude with a folklore show with live music and dances.
Transfer for your flight to Iguazu Falls.
Tour the Brazilian side of the falls for sweeping views! Start on the lower part on the trail descending into the canyon for panoramic views of more than 240 falls. Ride the glass elevator up the cliff face for a sweeping view from the upper deck.
OPTIONAL: Enjoy an unforgettable 10- minute helicopter scenic flight over the falls!
Take a full day tour of the Argentinean side of the falls, well known for the close-up views of the falls. Board a gas-propelled train to the Upper Circuit and the Lower Circuit. You will arrive at the Devil’s Throat where the falls is at its most impressive. Enjoy the exhilarating “Gran Aventura” that combines off-road ride in the jungle and a navigation to the middle of the Iguazu Canyon!
Transfer for your flight to Salta.
With its prime location in Valle de Lerma and the charming contrast between its colonial buildings and modern urban architecture, Salta retains the comfortable pace of a small town. See the 18th century Church and San Francisco Convent, declared a minor Basilica by the Vatican. Visit the Cabildo and the Historical Museum of the North.
Depart via San Antonio de los Cobres, a small desert mining town with tracks from the Train to The Clouds. Explore the unique landscapes of Quebrada del Toro, full of cacti, coloured mountains and occasional villages. Continue to Salinas Grandes via Cuesta de Lipán with colourful landscapes of ancient villages and the Andes mountain. At the highest point (4,140m), we spend some time in the salt plains framed by high mountains before continuing to Pumamarca.
Start the day at Quebrada de Humahuaca’s picturesque landscapes. Journey through the narrow mountain valley and pass by towns of great importance during the pre-Spaniards and colonial time.
Purmamarca village (UNESCO) is a great base to admire Cerro de los Siete Colours (Seven Colours Mountain) before continuing to Tilcara’s archaeological museum and Pucará ruins.
Visit the church of Uqia, holding paintings of the Harquebusier Angels, an important trace of the Roman Catholic artistic tradition called Cuszo School. Arrive in the colonial town of Humahuaca before making your way back to Salta via beautiful mountain scenery.
Transfer to the airport for your flight to El Calafate via Buenos Aires.
Upon arrival, we will transfer to your hotel to relax.
Enjoy a full day Perito Moreno Glacier tour, set amidst an Andean-Patagonian Forest. Take easy walks on the footbridges in front of its western wall to admire this natural wonder from different viewpoints. End with a visit to the Glacier Museum, an impressive modern interpretation glaciological centre.
OPTIONAL: Glacier Mini Trekking (Aug-May, suitable for 10-65 years)
In the morning, take a 20 minutes ferry across the Rico Arm with breath-taking view of the glacier’s front walls and Icebergs Channel. After 2 hours glacier hiking (on shared basis), enjoy your packed lunch somewhere on the ice.
After lunch, begin your descent to board your boat. Continue on the footbridges in front of the glacier for another perspective. Return to El Calafate.
After morning at leisure, we transfer to the airport for your flight to Bariloche via Buenos Aires or Cordoba.
We travel 1.5 hour northwards to the picturesque foothill village of Villa La Angostura, in the northwest margin of Nahuel Huapi Lake.
Start the scenic drive along the Seven Lakes road where you will see Correntoso Lake and Espejo Lake. Continue southwards skirting the Limay River and visit a charming mountain village with quintessential wooded constructions, tiled roof with two slopes and huge gardens. Arrive in Bariloche and check in to your hotel.
Take a scenic drive via Nahuel Huapi Lake and Bonita Beach into the foot of Mount Campanario. Ride a chairlift up to the peak (1,050m) for sweeping views of the city and its surrounds. Continue to the San Pedro Peninsula area and arrive at the Llao Llao Peninsula. Have some afternoon free time to explore your surrounding area.
Enjoy free morning. Transfer to the airport for your flight back to Buenos Aires to connect your departure flight back home.
