Well, the guys doing this for a living overwhelmingly play a ProV1 or ProV1x. Some estimates have this number close to 70% of tour players.
Needless to say, PGA Tour players love Titleist by an overwhelming majority. Amateurs love them as well, despite their higher price tag.
The ProV1 models have been a staple for the past two decades and used by some of the best players on tour including Bubba Watson, Jordan Speith, Justin Thomas, Patrick Cantlay and a lot of other big names.
While I still think it is one of the best golf balls, if not the best, it’s important to understand why they’re such quality golf balls. Every year, Titleist invests heavily into their R&D to make sure the ProV1 model has cutting edge technology and stays ahead of the competition.
Here’s what they did for the 2021 Pro V1 update.
Titleist Golf Balls – 2021 Update
The major focus for 2021 has been to increase long-game performance but not mess with the short-game and feel type shots. These changes have made the 2021 ProV1 and ProV1x even better than previous models. I personally made the switch and can say without hesitation I added 5-7 yards with the driver and a few extra with my irons.
Now, they have even greater ball speed and reduced backspin for the long game. But they haven’t sacrificed in the short game area, so you can still keep your same greenside shots.
Titleist Pro V1 vs. Titleist Pro V1X: Which Should You Choose?
If you’re ready to buy one of the Titleist Pro V1, you’ve probably asked yourself, “Should I buy the Titleist Pro V1 or Pro V1X?”
The answer…it depends 100% on your game and swing, as no two players are the same. In general, these are golf balls for advanced players and wouldn’t recommend them to someone who is new or still a higher handicap player.
But if you’re shooting in the 80s or better, the ProV1 series can help your game. Here is a brief overview between the two:
Pro V1
The Pro V1 is a more “all around” type ball that blends spin and distance pretty equally. It’s a players performance type golf ball that is geared toward lower handicap golfers. The Pro V1 is going to give you:

Next up is the new TaylorMade TP5 golf balls. The TP5 and the TP5X golf balls are some of the most popular golf balls on Tour and only growing in popularity. This golf ball is played by elite players like Dustin Johnson, Rory McIlroy, Rickie Fowler, Tommy Fleetwood, and more.
The TP5 and TP5x balls from TaylorMade are truly unique compared to the Chrome Soft and the Pro V1 series. The main difference is that the TP5 is the only 5-piece golf ball design.

4. Bridgestone Tour Series Golf Ball
While Bridgestone isn’t as big of a name as the first three on our best golf balls list, they’re growing in popularity. Specifically, with their golf ball line after signing Tiger Woods and other top tier PGA Tour players. Because let’s get real, who doesn’t want to play the golf ball that Tiger Woods plays?
Their Tour series comprises five different choices that are slightly cheaper than the first three as well. Most of them were awarded the Golf Digest Hot List in 2020. Here is an overview of the five different best golf balls from Bridgestone:

Anytime you are trying to compete against major golf ball brands like Callaway, Titleist, and Taylormade, nothing is given to you. But Vice golf took the challenge head on in 2012 and have been designing premium golf balls ever since.

The majority of golf balls on this list are geared toward mid to lower handicap golfers. But we want to break it up to also include beginners, average players, and high handicappers too. These are more of a soft golf ball that are more geared toward distance, not greenside spin.

Another great new name in the golf ball industry is Snell Golf. The creator of Snell Golf, Dean Snell, is a veteran golf ball designer with over 28 years experience working at TaylorMade and Titleist. The company is all about providing awesome quality golf balls for a fraction of the price, very similar to Vice Golf.
While they’re a newer company, they’ve received top awards including the Golf Digest Hot List a few years ago. Let’s dive into what makes these balls so great for the everyday golfer.
Snell Golf Ball Breakdown
Snell Golf has three different options to choose from. Here is a quick overview of each:
- MTB Black – If you’re looking for a high-performance ball at a fraction of the cost of the Pro V1 or Chrome Soft, this is it! The Snell MTB Black has a 3-piece design and increased distance thanks to its fast core with 7% lower compression from the original design. If you’ve been playing golf for a while and know Callaway, I’m sure you know the brand “Big Bertha.” They’re one of the most popular product lines from the brand and have been around for what feels like forever. Another iconic model line is the Warbird from Callaway, these are low-cost golf balls geared toward mid to high handicap golfers.
One of the reasons they’re great is because they’re a fraction of the price of the Chrome Soft series. The other reason is that the golf ball is all about one thing – speed! The high energy core is highly compressible, which means more distance with every club in the bag.
