Transfer to Ryokan via Shukkeien
Upon arrival in Hiroshima Airport, you would be met and transferred to your ryokan with en route sightseeing.
Shukkeien Garden: A Living Artwork
Rooted in history dating back to 1620, Shukkeien is a living masterpiece that stands as a testament to the enduring spirit of Japan’s past. Here, the essence of traditional Japanese aesthetics unfolds before your eyes. Serene tea houses grace the shores of the main pond. Meandering along a winding path that connects the entire garden, you will discover the delicate grandeur of Shukkeien’s meticulously crafted landscapes of miniature valleys, mountains and forests.
For the next two nights, allow yourself to revel in the tranquility of a lovely ryokan and its entrancing manicured garden.
Miyajima’s Spiritual Allure
Your journey continues with a visit to the enchanting Miyajima Island. Immerse in the island’s rich history as you make your way to Itsukushima Shrine. Along the way, you will be greeted by the friendly deers of Miyajima, once revered as messengers of ancient deities.
Nestled against the backdrop of Hiroshima Bay, Itsukushima Shrine is a timeless Shinto masterpiece. The ‘floating’ torii gate, with its vermilion pillars and thatched-roof structures, appears to emerge from the sea during high tide. It’s not just a visual marvel, but it’s also a place of profound spiritual significance.
As the excursion draws to a close, you will be transferred back to your ryokan to rest.
Takehara’s Timeless Heritage
After checking out from your ryokan, youwill be transferred to Bella Vista Marina via Takehara.
Takehara’s legacy traces back to the Edo period, with its flourishing salt and sake production. Nestled along the coastal shores and surrounded by a bamboo forest, Takehara’s quaint neighborhoods whispers stories of a bygone era. Many of the preserved historical buildings lining up the streets have been honored as Japan’s National Treasures.
Continue to the Former Matsuzaka Family Residence. This beautifully preserved estate showcases the elegant design and meticulous craftsmanship of the Edo period (1603-1868), offering a glimpse into the refined lifestyle of the Matsuzaka family.
As we bid farewell to Takehara, the journey continues into Bella Vista Marina in Onomichi, where you will embark Guntû for a two-night cruise.
Serenity at Sea
Varying its route depending on the season and weather, today Guntû will take you eastward – a route to experience the region’s distinctive industry and culture. The sailing route passes through Kasaoka Islands and beneath the Great Seto Bridge, as well as the art islands of Naoshima, Inujima and Shodoshima.
Transfer to Airport via Onomichi
Your Guntû cruise will disembark at the Bella Vista Marina, where you would be met and transferred to the Hiroshima Airport for your onward journey. En route, you will enjoy sightseeing at Onomichi.
Unveiling the Charms of Onomichi
Commence your Onomichi exploration with a ropeway ride to the observation platform at Senkoji Park. Perched atop one of Onomichi’s highest peaks, this vantage point unveils a sweeping panorama of Onomichi.
If time permits, you may meander along the narrow lanes that wind through the heart of Onomichi. Its charming neighborhoods are adorned with numerous historical landmarks steeped in rich literary and artistic heritage.
After lunch, you will have the opportunity to indulge in some retail therapy at the Onomichi shopping arcade, where you can bring home a piece of the captivating Setouchi region to cherish.
