Takehara’s Timeless Heritage
Takehara’s legacy traces back to the Edo period, with its flourishing salt and sake production. Nestled along the coastal shores and surrounded by a bamboo forest, Takehara’s quaint neighborhoods whispers stories of a bygone era. Many of the preserved historical buildings lining up the streets have been honored as Japan’s National Treasures.
Continue to the Former Matsuzaka Family Residence. This beautifully preserved estate showcases the elegant design and meticulous craftsmanship of the Edo period (1603-1868), offering a glimpse into the refined lifestyle of the Matsuzaka family.
As we bid farewell to Takehara, your journey continues to Hasukaichi. For the next two nights, allow yourself to revel in the tranquility of a lovely ryokan and its entrancing manicured garden.
Miyajima’s Spiritual Allure
Your journey continues with a visit to the enchanting Miyajima Island. Immerse in the island’s rich history as you make your way to Itsukushima Shrine. Along the way, you will be greeted by the friendly deers of Miyajima, once revered as messengers of ancient deities.
Nestled against the backdrop of Hiroshima Bay, Itsukushima Shrine is a timeless Shinto masterpiece. The ‘floating’ torii gate, with its vermilion pillars and thatched-roof structures, appears to emerge from the sea during high tide. It’s not just a visual marvel, but it’s also a place of profound spiritual significance.
As the excursion draws to a close, you will be transferred back to your ryokan to rest.
